Our Environmental Policy
Since the establishment of Retrofit Electronics (Pty) Ltd in 2012, we have introduced a number of revolutionary telecom products and services that have greatly benefited the telecom sector. As a result of the positive response to our services, which has allowed us to continue growing, we now have a record of having serviced over 100 sites. As Retrofit Electronics grows, we have become more aware of the extent to which our operations, as well as those of our staff, customers, and local and international communities, have an impact on the environment in which we operate. This is both an amazing opportunity and a weighty obligation in our eyes. Employees and management are guided by our environmental policy, which provides a unified vision of environmental principles.
Retrofit Electronics (Pty) Ltd uses sustainable business practices and processes that minimize waste, prevent pollution, conserve energy, minimize health and safety risks, and dispose of waste safely and responsibly. We take all appropriate steps to ensure that we meet or exceed all applicable environmental laws and regulations. Our approach to sustainability is research-based and measurable. As our principles are applied, we monitor the impact of our actions and work toward continual improvement. Environmental issues are taken into consideration across business units in the following ways:
4.1 Pollution Prevention
We actively work to prevent pollution produced by our materials and employees at every base station or site. This is achieved by monitoring the sources of waste and their disposal. We then work to reduce the amount of waste produced wherever possible; for example, we use reusable packaging and shipping materials.
When possible, our personnel choose to use recyclable materials like plastic and cardboard cartons that have a high percentage of recycled content. We take into account how simple our goods are to disassemble in order to simplify recycling when the product’s life cycle is up, thus lowering the environmental impact.
Our team is well-versed in pollution prevention exercises. If they have leftover food or food containers on site, our supervisors will ensure trash containers or plastics are available to help with disposal in a sustainable manner. Through the give back programme, where large reusable boxes containing goods used on site can be provided to individuals who may need them, especially in rural families, we have built relationships to facilitate donation, refurbishing, and recycling of used products.
4.2 Electricity
All sites have electricity or are wired for it. There are occasionally installs or retrofits that need for electrical work. At Retrofit Electronics, we always handle or oversee electrical work with a licensed electrician. All of our staff members are knowledgeable about excavating requirements for cables and wiring that won’t harm the environment in any way.
A qualified electrician will always conduct electrical tests and inspections, and in addition to evaluating the performance of the electrical system, they will also assess the environmental impact of the electrical system.
4.3 Chemical Control
To reduce chemical risks, we carefully dispose of waste materials that have undergone chemical treatment or could undergo chemical reactions if consumed by humans or animals. Our objective is to always carefully study the disposal instructions on the material or container manual in order to reduce any kind of risk. Some containers or boxes may be chemically toxic to the environment.
4.4 Civil Works
We build cable pathways, tower constructions, slabs for radios, bases for site lights and base foundations in most of the sites. Our policy as a company is to always use disposable bases for civil works materials like cement. After any type of construction, our safety officer will inspect the site to ensure cleanliness and the removal of dangerous items. A specific container is set aside in every construction for civil works waste removal.
4.5 Carbon Waste
To prevent carbon waste, which not only harms or affects greenhouse gases but also has an impact on human health, all vehicles transporting all Retrofit Electronics personnel and supplies are well-maintained and serviced on a regular basis. There is always a qualified auto mechanics engineer available to handle any fleet malfunctions. Every time a vehicle needs service, the mechanic notifies the owner and notes the dates of any maintenance or servicing.
4.6 Continuous Improvement
• To work towards a meaningful reduction of: energy use waste carbon dioxide, Retrofit sets a baseline based on historical data, monitors current quantities, and evaluates progress on a regular basis.
• We actively research environmentally friendly materials and technologies and implement them with a cautionary approach.
• We keep our employees and customers informed and educated about environmental challenges. Our goal is to establish a constructive dialogue regarding environmental issues with all interested parties
